Errek played in 74 games and earned four letters as a guard for the IU men's basketball program from 2004-07. Suhr and his wife, Jane, are the parents of one son, Errek, and the deceased Jenny Suhr. During his tenure, Suhr coached Thompson, the 1989 Heisman Trophy runner-up, Dunbar and Alex Smith, the 1994 UPI National Freshman of the Year. In 1998, the IU offense rushed for a school-record 2,963 yards.
From 1984-95, the Hoosiers had three different 1,000-yard rushers who topped that mark on six separate occasions. He spent 12 seasons (1984-95) as running backs coach under IU's all-time winningest coach, Bill Mallory, and he served on the same staff as current head coach, Bill Lynch, in 1993-94.Īfter his stint as running backs coach, including All-America selections Anthony Thompson and Vaughn Dunbar, Suhr was named administrative assistant to the head coach and athletic director from 1996-2001.Īs running backs coach, Suhr helped direct one of the nation's most productive rushing attacks. Suhr was a member of the Hoosier football program for 18 years as a coach and administrator.
